Length:

Measure from the top of the curtain rod to your desired length (the drop). The 1" header is not included in this

measurement.

Valance-to-window length ratio:

Valance length = 1/5 to 1/4 of total window height

Width:

For a gathered look, curtains should be 1.5 to 2 times the width of your window's curtain rod.

Tip: Match the valance width with the bottom panels' width for a balanced appearance.

(e.g., 60"W valance with 2 - 30"W panels)

Rod Pocket Size:

Round rods: the rod pocket should be twice the rod diameter

(e.g., 1" round rod → 2" pocket)

Flat continental rods: pocket should be ½ inch wider than the rod

(e.g., 2.5" flat rod → 3" pocket)

Accounting for Rod Take-Up:

 The standard 2-inch rod pocket accommodates rods up to 1 inch in diameter. Please factor in an additional 1-inch height allowance for fabric take-up once the 1-inch-diameter rod is inserted.
